Just a month before the nation exercised its democratic power and vote for their desired leaders, several debates and media fora has been arranged to help Filipinos decide which one is the best for each position. Here in Mindanao, one of the pressing issues that affect most of the provinces is the “Usapang Kapayapaan.” It is every Mindanaon’s wish to find peace and security for their families. Armed conflict has affected their lives and livelihood and their every waking moment.
So before the national elections, a Media Forum called “Usapang Kapayapaan” was held at the Rosario Pavilion, Limketkai Center, Cagayan De Oro. It focused on the stand of each congressional candidate on the quest for lasting peace in Mindanao and on how they will affirm this should they be elected in office.
The event was attended by 2nd District Representative candidates: Evangeline Carrasco, Celso Balat and Chito Fernandez who were running as Independent candidates, Edgar Cabanlas from Liberal Party, Maximo Rodriguez of CDP, and Ramon Tabor of UNA. Also present during the Forum is Commissioner Robert M Alonto.
